Vector Group’s J. Robert “Bob” Carleton and Gary Craig presented Beating the Odds: Building a Deal-Maker’s Credibility by Ensuring a Quickly Successful Deal with Legs for the Longer-Term at the Alliance for Mergers & Acquisitions Advisors (AM&AA) Winter Conference. The conference was held at The Bellagio Las Vegas on February 2, 2017.
Their topic focused on Cultural Due Diligence and post-merger or acquisition cultural integration. The basic question for their audience was “What are the risks for a dealmaker when closing a deal knowing that its long-term success could be in jeopardy?”
Their answer to that question was that in Vector Group’s 30+ years of dealing with M&A’s globally, our firm has yet to see two organizational cultures that cannot be successfully integrated. M&A failure due to “culture clash” is just management negligence, arrogance, ignorance or some mix of the three. Dysfunctional “culture clash” need never occur.
